In my great grandmothers language, Gunditjmara, the word Thanampool means woman. This print represents the beauty and power in femininity, along with the Importance of women in my culture. Aboriginal women were the gatherers- a very important role in our society. This print displays the plants, seeds, nuts, berries and flowers that would be harvested by the women as the travelled through the land and around the waterways. These gathered Items are in abundance, spread throughout the artwork to show the resources covering this beautiful land. I have Included butterflies, which to me show's beautiful and freedom. This artwork also shows the Importance of unity between women and how our connections to one another makes us stronger. Symbols representing women (an arch with a line beside it) are seen all throughout this art piece, showing the importance of women in my culture- many tribes were matriarchal societies.
